A Very Sweet Engagement

Jenni & Johnny wanted their engagement photos shot in Portland. Since it was 103 degrees that day I decided we’d better wait until just after sunset and that we’d better find somewhere near water. This park, in NW Portland, fit the bill.

A Little Color

Whenever I shoot a wedding I always process a handful of images with selective color. Mostly I’m looking for warm colors that will really stand out in an otherwise black & white image. When I spied the Maid of Honor decorating the aisle at Chateau Lorane I knew I had my shot.

A Funny Moment

As this bride was waiting at the hair salon she noticed this magazine. The first page she turned to was the one you see here. I heard her laughter and turned around to catch this image. The caption says it all…

Country Inn Wedding

I’ve shot perhaps a dozen weddings at the Country Inn and they’ve all been great fun. This one was no exception. I really like how the color of the flower petals (thrown by the guests) contrasts with the black and white of the bride and groom.  I also edited this shot with selective coloring, leaving just the petals in color, and it turned out…

A Walk in the Woods

Not many couples know about the woods and the pond at King Estate but it’s a wonderful location for photographs. The dappled light coming through was a nice complement to Julie’s dress. I did a little sepia tint in Lightroom and that’s about it.

Kissing a Prince?

This bride got quite a shock as she approached her cake table: a little tree frog had been perching on the window and, as the bride walked by, it jumped onto her shoulder! She barely had time to glance at it before it leapt away. Catching this shot was a matter of being in the right place at the right time 🙂 This was…

Who Wants It?

Dress shoes, especially the rental kind that come with tuxedos, aren’t known for their comfort or athletic-enhancing ability. That didn’t stop this fellow from grabbing the garter!

May the Best Bride Win!

Emmy and Sam were married in Pocatello, Idaho. Both are members of the Idaho State track team and were able to use the track for their ceremony. After the nuptials were finished I asked them to prove who was the fastest. Emmy won! Must be the shoes 🙂

Observed

When Devon and Brian hired me to shoot their wedding this past summer, they told me they were looking for a strict PJ approach. Not pajamas, of course! PJ stands for Photo Journalism. Many couples tell me they want their weddings shot in the PJ style but most end up expecting a lot of traditional portraits as well 🙂 Devon and Brian were the…

Finishing touches

There are lots of places for a bride to get ready: a hotel room, her parents’ house, a bridal suite at the wedding venue, etc. This, however, was the most scenic place I’ve ever seen a bride receive those finishing touches. Another Bridal Veil Lakes wedding.
