Picking out the bridal dress is one of the most important decisions a bride has to make. Backless? Lace? Veil? After spending so much time (and money!) on the perfect dress, it’s only natural that when the groom sees his new bride for the first time, in her dress, it’s a very special moment. Whether or not this first look happens before the ceremony…
I like to have a little fun with the bride and groom during the Wedding Party photos. Once I saw the groom was wearing a long tie (ie, not a bow-tie), I knew I’d make this image. Some couples are okay with this sort of playacting and some aren’t; I always take my cue from the couple and these two were great fun!
Located in the picturesque community of Harrisburg, Oregon, Stewart Family Farm is a great wedding venue. This 5th-generation property has it all: massive shade trees, expansive lawn areas, water access and optional on-site catering. There’s even a separate ‘Groom’s Cabin’ which means the entire wedding party can get ready at the same time. If you’re looking for an outdoor wedding venue, add Stewart Family…
When shooting a wedding I always take care to include plenty of detail shots; these images really help when it comes time for creating albums. Whether I use the detail images as opaque backgrounds or as full-size pages, they are a wonderful way to personalize each couple’s album. While I was shooting the wedding rings at a wedding a few weeks ago, I noticed…
The Inn at Diamond Woods, near Monroe, is an absolutely amazing wedding venue. With spacious lodging facilities, and a wonderful location adjacent to the golf course, The Inn at Diamond Woods is a gem. This wedding, a few weeks ago, really showcased the beauty of the venue. Check it out!
The groom from this past Saturday’s wedding at The Inn at Diamond Woods really loved his hat so I told him to put it on. The hat, along with the .45 he had strapped to his leg, reminded me of Indiana Jones.
The wedding rings are the most enduring symbol of marriage; it’s important to photograph them in a way that highlights their importance. I have a handful of ways I shoot the rings and this is one of my favorites. Using an aperture like f2.8 allows the rings to become the focal point while the newlyweds become an intriguing background.
I use some form of flash in nearly all my images, as I’ve stated elsewhere in this blog. However, there are times when flash is unnecessary, as was the case with this first image below. When I saw the light shining through the trees, directly onto that swing, I knew I had to get the bride and groom over there ASAP. I already had…
When I saw this rifle I knew I had to use it in a few shots. This image is a play on similar images I’ve created, except I never had a bride holding a real gun before!
Kaley and Derek braved this past Saturday’s rain showers and I’m glad they did. This shot was taken just before the ceremony, right after the First Look.
