A Leap of Faith

This groom had no intention of making this jump, but he did make a leap of faith later on that day when he married his beautiful bride, Melissa.

This image was made at the Embassy Suites in Denver, Colorado just prior to the wedding ceremony.

Smokin’ Hot

The smoking of the late-night cigar is a fairly common occurrence amongst a groom and his groomsmen. When the bride steps in and wants a piece of the action, that makes it even more photo-worthy! This is from a wedding I shot in Denver this past weekend.

Flowers in the Breeze

This is an image I like to create at a lot of my weddings: just the flowers in focus with the couple behind them. When the wind picked up during this particular shoot it created some nice, dynamic movement.

You’ll notice this is the full image from one of my rotating header images at the very top of the page.

Trash the Dress?!

This bride wasn’t about to let these groomsmen throw her into the pond, despite the 102℉ temperature that day. ‘Trash the Dress’ may be popular elsewhere in the country, and in parts of Mexico, but not here in Oregon!

My Header Image

This is one of the images I use for my header; it’s from a wedding at King Estate. Look at all that blue sky! I was just thinking about blue skies, and the New Zealand coast, as I pondered what to do with my winning numbers from Mega Millions (crossing my fingers tonight!). New Zealand is an amazing place and 640 million US dollars is about 1 billion NZ dollars…

Good til the Last Drop

When it comes time for the bride and groom to share their first piece of wedding cake, I never know what to expect. This, however, was as messy as I’ve ever seen:)

This image was made at the Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon. The venue was completely dark but all I used was some bounce flash, directed into the white wall behind me and to my left. I could’ve slowed down the shutter speed a little, and let in some more ambient light, but I wanted the cake-covered groom to stand out so I left the background just dark enough that the guests were visible but not competing for space within the frame.

A Beckenridge Wedding

Beckenridge Vineyard is located near Dallas, Oregon. They take great pride in their wine, even going so far as to ask their guests not to bring any footwear that’s been worn at other vineyards! I guess this helps keep out unwanted pests and microorganisms that might upset the grape stock. I found a similar attitude from a customs agent in Auckland, but never before in the States 🙂

Leanne and Ryan were married on a gorgeous summer day at Beckenridge and most everyone had on brand new shoes. I did a custom sepia conversion in Adobe Lightroom.

Waiting for a Bride

This groom was nervously waiting for his bride to arrive. The groom’s father took the chance to give his son some last minute advice and reassurance as the rest of the groomsmen waited.

A Little Family Fun

During any wedding, portraits sessions are as fun as you make them! We’ve all seen the classic portraits where everyone is facing the camera, trying to keep a natural smile on their face while not blinking. I like to mix things up a little and get some real expressions going. This is one of the methods I use. Immediately after this kind of shot, everyone is relaxed and smiling freely:)

I especially like the flower girl’s reaction in this image…

Kissing Under the Veil

Whenever I shoot a wedding I always hope the bride has a long veil. There are just so many ways to incorporate it into the portraits!

This Whisper’n’Oaks wedding was one such occasion. Alecia and Sean were quite happy to cuddle up under the privacy of taffeta and begin their honeymoon a little early.
