A Beautiful Bouquet

This was the second time I’ve seen a bouquet made up entirely of old jewelry, mostly brooches. A very nice way to incorporate some family heirlooms and definitely not something the bride will be tossing during the reception! I’ve done this shot a number of times and it’s always a perennial favorite amongst brides.

Veil in the Wind

Whenever a bride has a long veil I always hope for a windy day. At this Seven Springs wedding, Laurel’s veil was six feet long! Laurel, who works at David’s Bridal, made her own wedding dress, including the veil. As we were shooting the bridal portraits I kept hoping the wind would pick up. It never did so I had the maid of honor take hold of Laurel’s veil and fully extend it, only letting it go when I told her to (she then jumped out of the frame). I’ve also added a slight gaussian blur to this image, which I like to do when there’s dappled light.

More from Mt Hood Organic Farms

Before I get too busy with the rest of my 2012 weddings, I thought I’d post another  image from Mt Hood Organic Farms. The sun had already set and the only light in this photo came from the fellow with the sparkler…

Allison and Josh were married at Mt Hood Organic Farm this past Saturday. Located 15 miles south of Hood River, the farm has a spectacular view of Mt Hood and is a great wedding venue.

I’m just now going through all the images in Lightroom and have picked out a few favorites for this post.

And here’s another one from that day:

Jumping for Joy

This is from a wedding I shot last Saturday, along the Willamette River near Harrisburg (Oregon), at The Riverbend Resort. I had Robert leap off the rock you see behind the bride, and I told him to jump away from her so there’d be some spacing between them.

Furthermore, check out my other sites at mattemrichphoto and smugmug for additional photos. I’m also a multi- award-winning member of the WPJA, and can be found on the ‘Preferred Vendor’ pages of King Estate and Whisper’n’Oaks. Most recently, I’ve been invited to join My Eugene Photographer and am very happy to be part of a great local community.

Happy 4th of July!

Anne & Ian were married at the McMenamins Sandtrap in Gearhart, Oregon this past Sunday. As we walked along the beach at sunset I knew I wanted to make this image for a July 4th posting:)

When to introduce noticeable post-processing

I used a slight gaussian blur on this image, then ‘painted’ the bride’s eyes back in at 100% of the original, sharper image, and the rest of her at around 80%. This particular bride likes soft-focus images so I did work like this on a few from her wedding at Whisper’n’Oaks last week. I used Adobe Lightroom for processing the RAW file and Adobe Photoshop for the gaussian blur.

Classic

Emily & Luke were married on the Oregon campus in Eugene. Eschewing a tuxedo, Luke was all class in his gray suit (and, since tuxedos are technically evening wear and this was an afternoon wedding, that made perfect sense!).

We did it!

Whenever I’m shooting all the traditional family portraits I always try and inject some fun into the group(s). Everyone wants to look good in pictures but nobody wants to have to stare at a camera for a long time and try and hold a natural smile. For this reason I like to mix it up and create situations where everyone is relaxed and having fun. This shot was fun, and everyone liked it, but more importantly, the next series of images featuring this group showed a lot more relaxed expressions.
