I like to set up a shot like this whenever there’s a large wedding party. The standard poses are all well and good but it’s also important to have some fun, too! This image was taken at Deep Woods Events in Elmira, Oregon.

I love finding unique perspectives. When the bride and her father made their way across the bridge I wanted to capture a sense of the venue, which was way out in the woods with no electricity and no cell coverage. This shot conveys a little of that; I really like the small opening in the trees that afforded me a ‘sneak peek’ as they approached the path leading to the aisle. This wedding was at Clark Creek Campground, out past Lowell, Oregon.

Trisha and Jordan were married at the Clark Creek Campground this past Saturday; yes, during the Michigan State game! Since there was no power and no cell service we were all able to keep our focus on the joyful celebration of marriage between these two. This shot was made after the sun had already gone behind the hills. Using an off-camera Canon 600EX-RT speedlight, softened through a white umbrella about three feet from the couple, I was able to use the light from the flash to freeze the petals in mid-air and also have enough ambient light to keep the rest of the frame from going completely black. My ISO was at 6400 but my Canon 5D3 was up to the task.

More from the Bend wedding a couple weeks ago. The sun was nearly set and the ambient light was very warm but also a little too dim for me to effectively portray this couple’s reflection in the pond. I could’ve used an ND filter and no flash but I wanted the effect of directional side-lighting so I set up a light about five feet from the couple and fired away. By raising my ISO and using a relatively slow shutter speed I was still able to incorporate much of the ambient light as well.

At this Bend wedding, with views of all of Oregon’s Cascade Mountains, it was easy to find great backgrounds. Creating a fun foreground was also important and, since a lot of the friends and family had decided to camp on the property for the entire weekend, I thought of all those tents which inspired me to create this image.

I’m starting to get inquiries for 2015 weddings and thought I’d put up a few links to some helpful sites. If you haven’t heard of Etsy, it’s a great place to shop for everything wedding related (or to simply get really cool ideas). The same goes for Pinterest. I have a few Pinterest pages; one for wedding photography and one for wedding cakes. 2015 is just around the corner so it’s never too early! This image is from a wedding I shot at Silvan Ridge, in Lane County’s wine country along Territorial Highway.

At this Diamond Woods wedding I shot this past Saturday, Terra and Ryan were ready to party with their friends but I wanted to get some last sunset pictures before it was too late. With my 2nd shooter–Jacob Mockbee–holding my off-camera flash I was able to create this image. Then it was party time!

Janet & Scott were married at Beckenridge Vineyard in Dallas, Oregon. The sun had gone down but I was still out shooting. Wanting to capture the sunset light, but still show the newlyweds well, required a little off-camera flash.

As I was walking with Amy and Jeff, along the Oregon Coast, a huge ray of light appeared, shining directly onto the newlyweds. What a treat!

Every parent wants to see their children happily married and so it was with this wedding. Emily and Luke are a perfect match and Emily’s mom couldn’t be happier. This wedding ceremony took place on the University of Oregon campus, in the quad area between PLC and the Knight Library.
